Crisis On Infinite Comics

Review #1: X-factor 201
Before I dive into this review I would like to introduce myself. I am Cody Shedd and I consider myself an avid comic enthusiast Just before i was asked to start reviewing comics, Danny and i had just launched our first podcast. If you are interested in a podcast dealing with the on-going events of the DCU, you should check us out over at www.crisisoninfiniteblog.blogspot.com, or subscribe on Itunes. Just do a quick search for 'Crisis on Infinite Comic' and you should see us right there on the front page. That is enough with the shameless plugs!
As we get into X-factor #201, I would like to say I have not been a follower of the series, perhaps that will give me a very neutral outlook as i try to review it as fairly as possible.
First off, I would like to start with the art. At the beginning of the issue the pencils were very well done, but they seemed to snowball downhill as the issue pushed forth. Thinks, on the other hand, were impressive throughout. Bing Cansino's pencils just felt as if they began to drag the overall artwork down as it progressed. That led to a big disappointment after such a great beginning. Overall it still was not enough to completetake away from the issue's strong points.
On to the story! Upon reading this issue, I was almost compelled to head back and pick up a few back issues and get a better grasp over the over-arching plot. If you have been keeping up with this series, you would be much more qualified to rate this than myself. That said, the story seemed to chug along and build up steam at points, only to fall off and drag out moments that should have been portrayed in two panels. Those moments went on for two pages at times. Through my frustration with that, the issue still held my attention.
Looking back as whole, story and art, the issue was decent. If you are a follower of the series there is nothing here to run you off. If you are a newcomer to it, however, you may want to grab a few back issues before diving head first into #201.
I hope this is of some help to those reading. You will be seeing, and hearing, alot more from myself. Both here and on Crisis On infinite Comics. See you all soon!
